Pet Poisons
If you think your pet has eaten something toxic, time can be critical. At Salisbury Highway Vet Surgery, we’re here to guide you through the next steps. Below are essential resources and signs to watch for, as well as what to do in an emergency.
What to do if your pet ingests something toxic
If your pet has consumed something potentially poisonous, such as human medications, cleaning products, plants, or certain foods, contact us immediately on (08) 8258 7978 during business hours.
Outside of our opening hours, contact your nearest emergency vet clinic or a dedicated pet poison helpline.
Do not wait for symptoms to appear. Early intervention can be lifesaving.

- Lethargy or weakness
- Seizures or muscle tremors
- Pale gums
- Rapid or irregular heartbeat

These signs can develop quickly, depending on the type of toxin.

- Foods – chocolate, onions, garlic, grapes/raisins, xylitol (artificial sweetener)
